Bunion Care July 8th, 2009
Bunions are a deformity in the bones which happens most commonly on the joint that connects your big toe to the rest of your foot. This joint becomes misaligned, which can make it really difficult or impossible to live a normal life. Luckily, with the correct bunion care you can help to reduce the impact it has on your life, and the activities you love to do.
One of the best things you can do if you suffer from bunions is to purchase properly fitted footwear. Sometimes, bunions can be caused by wearing shoes or boots that don’t fit properly, or by wearing high heeled shoes too often. These types of footwear start pushing the joint out of place, which will cause the bunion to happen in the first place.
Hot or cold therapies have been used with great results at treating the pain of bunions. It will help to greatly reduce the inflammation that occurs at the site of the bump or deformity. By reducing the swelling, you will be reducing the pain.
Bunion splints are one of the best ways to treat a bunion permanently. It is a splint that is commonly worn on the foot when you go to sleep. As you are sleeping, it will go to work helping to realign the joints in your toes, specifically the area of the bunion. By realigning it with the rest of your foot, you can help make that bunion disappear so that you can get back to doing what you love. It is an important part of overall bunion care, and should not be overlooked.
Using proper bunion care methods is going to make a big difference in how comfortable you are each day. When you no longer have to cringe at the thought of walking or standing for too long, you will be properly caring for your bunion.
